What is Luther's Lunchbox?
This year we are celebrating the five year anniversary of Luther's Lunchbox!
Luther's Lunchbox was created in 2019 to help address food insecurities at Carthage. The stop-and-go supplemental food program is sponsored by the Center for Faith and Spirituality, located in the A. F. Siebert Chapel on campus. This resource is available to students year-round, offering snacks, quick-serve meals, and more. The Lunchbox makes sure to offer students meals based on their dietary needs, including gluten-free options. It is an important resource for those who simply don't have enough food.
The Lunchbox also supplies hats and gloves during the winter season and hygiene products like toothpaste & brushes, shampoo and conditioner, body wash, tampons, sanitary pads, laundry detergent, and dryer sheets.
Seeing your impact...
$10 can provide students with mid-day snacks or a meal.
$50 can provide commuter students weekly supplemental meals.
$100 can supplement meals for a student for an entire week.
$250 can stock up to three shelves of non-perishable items.
$500 can get students personal care items.
$1,000 can keep Luther's Lunchbox running for a little over one week.
Why are donations necessary?
Luther's Lunchbox runs entirely on donations and costs around $3,500 to stock and run the program each month. On average, 2,500 items circulate off the shelves per month. The majority of these items are non-perishable and personal care products.
Your gift will help students at Carthage find something to eat when they need it most. Help us stock the shelves and close the gap on hunger!
Personal Message from Debbie Clark: In Memory of Pastor Kara
Pastor Kara was a huge proponent of the Lunchbox, supporting the process I started with the support of a faculty-staff committee and administration. She chose the name Luther's Lunchbox because of Martin Luther's emphasis on serving ... "Therefore, we should be guided in all our works by this one thought alone -- that we may serve and benefit others in everything that is done, having nothing before our eyes except the need and advantage of the neighbor."
Also, because at the core of the Church is serving our neighbor. She felt the chapel was the perfect place to have the Lunchbox because of the church connection and because we are indeed the center/heart of campus. It's here CFS and Kara worked to focus on the holistic care of students, body, mind and spirit.
